How much is castor oil in Lagos today?

Lagos prices follow the national ranges above, with two differences worth knowing:

• Market shops sometimes beat pharmacy prices, especially for larger bottles, but you need to check the bottle carefully because decanted and diluted oil is common in open markets.
• Delivery fees can add a lot to cheap online listings, so compare the total cost, not just the product price.

In Abule Oshun, Elo-Ruks Naturals (Shop E2/379, Articles Market) stocks sealed xHerbs Castor Oil 200ml. The shop sets its own price, so confirm at the counter. The xherbs.store online price is a useful reference.

Why castor oil prices vary so much

1. Bottle size: a 70ml bottle and a 200ml bottle at similar prices are not similar value. Always work out the price per ml.
2. How the oil was extracted: cold-pressed oil is pressed mechanically. Cheaper industrial oil is often extracted with hexane, a chemical solvent, and then refined.
3. Grade: pharmacy castor oil labelled BP (British Pharmacopoeia) is made to a standard for internal use as a laxative. Cosmetic castor oil is made for hair and skin.
4. Imported vs local packing: imported brands carry exchange-rate and shipping costs.
5. Packaging: dark glass costs more than plastic but protects the oil from light.
6. Dilution: very cheap "castor oil" in reused bottles may be cut with thinner, cheaper oils. See how to know original castor oil in Nigeria.

How to work out price per ml

Divide the price by the number of millilitres. For example:

• ₦10,000 ÷ 70ml = about ₦143 per ml
• ₦10,500 ÷ 200ml = about ₦52 per ml

The second bottle costs only ₦500 more but gives you almost three times as much oil. If you use castor oil regularly on your hair or scalp, size matters more than brand name.

Castor oil price for hair growth: what you actually need

For hair and edges you don't need pharmacy-grade oil. Cosmetic cold-pressed oil is the right product. Because castor oil is so thick, a little goes a long way. Used two or three times a week on the scalp and edges, a 200ml bottle can last from several weeks to a few months, depending on hair length and how much you apply.
